Vein Care

ClariVein®

ClariVein® is a revolutionary approach to varicose veins. Minimally invasive and quick, ClariVein® effectively reduces the appearance of an existing varicose vein with little to no discomfort during the treatment. Now you can get ClariVein® as part of your San Luis Obispo vein treatment.

If you are like millions of other people in the United States, twisted and bulging varicose veins ruin the smooth appearance of your legs. Your varicose veins may also cause symptoms, such as leg heaviness, burning, throbbing, and muscle cramps in your legs.

Varicose vein treatment usually involves irritating the diseased vein so that it closes and breaks apart. Blood then flows through other veins. The varicose vein disappears as nearby tissue absorbs the broken-up vein.

ClariVein® - The San Luis Obispo Vein Treatment You Need to Get Rid of Varicose Veins

ClariVein® is different from other types of varicose vein treatment in that it does not use heat. Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) uses the heat of laser light to irritate the interior of diseased veins; the vein swells and seals shut in response to the irritation. Radiofrequency ablation uses the electrical current in radio waves to heat up the vein’s lining, causing the varicose vein to close.

Instead, ClariVein® combines a mechanical process with a chemical reaction to close the diseased vein. Vein doctors refer to the process as mechanical occlusion with chemical assist, or MOCA. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved ClariVein® for use as a varicose vein treatment.

Specifically, the system gives vascular surgeons a better way of injecting a chemical that treats the varicose vein. This chemical, known as a sclerosant, irritates the inner lining of the diseased vein without heat.

ClariVein® uses a special system known as an infusion catheter system, which is a special tube with a one-of-a-kind rotating tip that sprays the sclerosant. This allows for 360-degree application of the chemical. Coating the inside of the diseased vein completely makes the treatment more effective, so patients enjoy smoother, vein-free skin.

ClariVein® is highly effective and pain-free, but the technique provides other benefits too. Some of these additional benefits include:

  • Reduced risk of bruising
  • Quick procedure time – usually about 30 minutes
  • Fast recovery time

The ClariVein® device is two to three times thinner than the devices doctors use for radiofrequency and laser ablation. ClariVein® only requires one tiny entry point in the skin; Dr. Stevens will use ultrasound to visualize the vein for maximum accuracy.

All varicose vein treatments, including ClariVein®, begin with an initial consultation and evaluation. During the consultation, Dr. Stevens will review your medical history, speak with you about your symptoms, learn about the outcomes you expect from the procedure, and evaluate the veins in your legs. The consultation helps you and your vein doctor decide if ClariVein® is right for you.
